Journey To Woodmere Leadership
Woodmere has always been part of my story. As a child, I remember family outings to Corky & Lenny’s and celebrations at the Fish Market. Years later, I served here as a part-time police officer—and in 2023, I chose to make Woodmere my home. I live in the Beechmont Towers. I have a daughter in college and a teenage son. Today, my son loves it here, though he wishes there were more spaces and activities for kids. I share that vision. I’m running for mayor to bring fresh ideas, proven leadership, and a future that works for every resident.
A Life of Service
I proudly served in the Ohio Army National Guard and earned both the Army Achievement and Commendation Medals. My career spans law enforcement and public safety leadership—from the Cleveland Clinic Police Department, to Bedford Heights Police Department, to Cleveland Public library, to managing safety operations at Shaker Heights Public Library and much more. I’ve led emergency preparedness, policy development, and community engagement programs that protect and empower people.I am a proud member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., where I have been present in support of Woodmere’s Juneteenth celebration and engaged in meaningful service throughout Greater Cleveland—including outreach at Cleveland’s tent city and the Lakeside men’s shelter. I find joy in giving back, from delivering meals to the widows of members of the Prince Hall Four Symbolic Lodges of Cleveland, to donating to charitable funds, assisting fellow Veterans, and guiding those in need. Community service is not just an activity for me—it is a commitment to uplifting others and strengthening the fabric of our community.
Leadership That Delivers
I’ve managed budgets, led teams, and built partnerships with schools, mental health professionals, and first responders. My experience includes:
• Strategic planning and operational audits
• Hiring, training, and staff development
• Community policing and youth outreach
• Risk mitigation and emergency response
From Caledonia to Candidacy
Growing up in East Cleveland and Cleveland Heights during the 1980s and ’90s meant facing real odds—violence, poverty, and systemic barriers. I lost my 18-year-old brother. I saw friends fall through the cracks but I refused to let statistics define me. I became a father, a veteran, a college graduate, and a public servant. Throughout my life, I have experienced growth and success in both personal and professional pursuits, just like many of my neighbors and many residents here in Woodmere Village. I have faced and overcome challenges in both my personal and professional life, just like many of my neighbors and many residents here in Woodmere Village. I am well-rounded and I can relate to the people. My story isn’t just about beating the odds—it’s about building a blueprint for what’s possible.
What I’ll Do as Mayor
Woodmere deserves leadership that listens, leads, and delivers. As mayor, I will:
• Personally hear, respect, and document the voices and opinions of all residents
• Ensure transparency, accountability, and open communication with residents
• Expand youth programs and create safe, engaging spaces for kids and teens
• Strengthen public safety through community policing and emergency preparedness
• Support local businesses and attract smart development
Let’s Move All the Way Up—Together
I’m not running to preserve the status quo—I’m running to elevate Woodmere. On November 4, 2025, let’s do something different. Let’s choose leadership rooted in service, resilience, and results.
I ask for your vote to become the next Mayor of Woodmere Village.
Gary Harris (Unaffiliated/ Independent)
